TJUESDAY: August 11, 2026: HE’s named after New Zealand and Sydney Roosters legend Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.And he showed at his home track today that he has the same toughness as the former rugby league hardman, now a Fox League analyst.Lightly-raced Waerea, easily the day’s shortest-priced favorite at $1.22, overcame a hairy moment near the 250m when trying to get clear running and became hemmed between the leader and eventual runner-up Ribble Lace ($31) and Galactic Force ($19) in the Elite Sand &amp; Soil Provincial Class 1 Handicap (1300m).Jockey Chad Schofield quickly escaped the jam, and Waerea went on with the job to post his second win (along with four seconds) from seven starts.“Really he has never run a bad race,” said trainer Brad Widdup this evening of his four-year-old half-brother to Hawkesbury’s now retired triple Group 1 winner Duais.“And he’s still improving.“I wanted to see him do that today, and I’m sure he will take further confidence from it.“Waerea is ready to go to town now for a suitable race.“I’d like to win a couple more with him, and then put him aside for a crack at the Provincial-Midway Championships next autumn.“I feel he would be an ideal type for that series.”Waerea was Hawkesbury’s premier trainer’s second victory in the new season, following on from a benchmark 67 in the racing year recently completed.It was also his 487th overall success as he edges toward a career 500.Along with Waerea’s performance under 60kg topweight, Brad also was pleased with the debut of Savabeel filly Latest Flame ($5.50) in the De Bortoli Maiden Handicap (1100m).Owned by New Zealand’s famed Cambridge Stud, the three-year-old ran third to another debutante, four-year-old mare Vain Temptress ($5.50), who overhauled $3.20 favorite Union.“I will probably give Latest Flame one more run, and then stop with her,” Brad said.“She is a nice filly.”Latest Flame’s rider Schofield was permitted to declare 0.5kg overweight, but was fined $200 by RacingNSW stewards when he returned to scale after the race 1kg over.

SUNDAY: August 2, 2026: EVERY trainer takes delight in any win – and Brad Widdup was especially pleased to clinch a breakthrough with Savoonga at Wyong today.Hawkesbury’s leading trainer wasted no time getting off the mark in the new season following a benchmark 67 winners in the previous racing year which ended last Friday.Brad took the Provincial Maiden Handicap (1350m) with Savoonga (Chad Schofield) at $3.90, at her sixth start.A four-year-old daughter of North Pacific, the lightly-raced mare was bred by Davali Thoroughbreds and given to Brad when she didn’t reach her reserve at the 2024 Inglis Classic yearling sale.“I liked her at the sale and was pleased when Davali asked me to train her,” he said this evening.“Davali has been a good supporter of the stable, so it was very satisfying to win with this mare.“Savoonga had six trials between March last year and January this year before she went to the races.“She just wasn’t ready, and we had to be patient.“I gave her four starts earlier this year and, whilst unplaced in all of them, she didn’t run badly.“She has come back really well with a first-up second at Newcastle and today’s win, and I feel she will get up to at least a mile (1600m).“Hopefully today’s breakthrough will give her confidence to keep improving.”Whilst Brad scored with Savoonga, stablemates Seven Days ($1.50) and Vondel ($10) could not bring the same result in other races.Seven Days ($1.50 favorite) ran fifth in the Class 1 Handicap (1100m), and Vondel ran fifth in Johnny Smash’s race.The lengthy RacingNSW stewards’ report underscored Seven Days’ woes in running, and Vondel was held up for clear running from the 300m until near the 100m.Meanwhile, Brad is very pleased with the progress of his quality mare Savvy Hallie, who will trial for a second time this preparation at Rosehill Gardens on Friday.“Really happy with how she is going,” he said.“Provided she trials as well as expected on Friday, she will resume at Royal Randwick on August 22.“That will be in one of the two Group 3s; Show County Quality )1200m) or Toy Show Quality (1100m) against her own sex.”

BRAD’S LATEST STAR MAKES IT FOUR IN A ROWSUNDAY: July 26, 2026: HAWKESBURY’S premier trainer Brad Widdup has added a new string to his bow.Brad clinched a two-track double yesterday with Satono Jasmine at Royal Randwick and Somerford at Kembla Grange to boost his season’s number of winners to 67, and overall tally to 485.Not long after winning his second local premiership in succession against all comers, it was Satono Jasmine’s victory which provided another highlight to his training career.This was the first time he has won four races in a row with a horse – and one who has taken a giant leap forward this preparation.“Brad has won three races in a row twice with Adelong, but never four until yesterday,” Brad’s wife Milissa said today.Ridden by Chad Schofield, Satono Jasmine ($3.80 favorite) was given plenty of time to settle in the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1800m) before surging home out wide in the straight to relegate Horizons ($3.90) and Victorian visitor Oraqua ($12) to the minor placings.Brad says he has always liked three-year-old filly Satono Jasmine, but not in his wildest dreams did he think she could put together an impressive picket fence, including the last two in town.“I thought I could win a Maiden and perhaps a Class 1 with her, but there’s been no stopping her lately,” he said today.“Whereas Chad took off mid-race last time to win at Warwick Farm, he rode her patiently yesterday and she produced a really good turn of foot.“She has come a long way in a relatively short time, but that’s it for now.“She went to the paddock this morning.“We’ll give her a nice break and see what happens in the new season as a four-year-old mare.”Satono Jasmine began her winning streak at Gosford on June 18, then won again at Hawkesbury on July 2 before successfully stepping into midweek company at Warwick Farm on July 15.All those wins were at 1600m, and she had no trouble going an extra 200m to make it four on end.Brad also was pleased to get a breakthrough with lightly-raced Wootton Basset two-year-old Somerford at Kembla Grange.Ridden by Christian Reith, Someford ($2.10 favorite) got back and had a chequered passage in the straight before getting clear and defeating Photoshop ($7) and Grand Carousel ($7) in the F&amp;M Maiden Plate (1300m).“She is a very nice filly (a $600,000 purchase for Mulberry at last year’s Magic Millions yearling sale at the Gold Coast), and this was only her third start,” Brad said.“I took her to Canberra in February for her debut in the Black Opal Prelude and she ran sixth to Magic Time, who then won the Black Opal and ran third in the Golden Slipper Stakes.“She ran well first-up at Newcastle a fortnight ago, and I was confident she would be hard to beat yesterday.”Brad’s double took the number of winners for the Hawkesbury training base this season to 176 – seven more than last year.Meanwhile, his classy filly Savvy Hallie (soon to be four) is progressing well preparing for a return in the new season.Savvy Hallie, who won the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in autumn before finishing second to Tempted in the Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m), finished fourth in a 900m Rosehill Gardens trial last Friday.“She trialled well, and will trial again at Rosehill on September 7,” Brad said.“At this stage I’m looking to resume her at Randwick on August 22 in either the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1100m) against her own sex or open company Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m).”

SUNDAY: July 19, 2026: BRAD Widdup didn’t mess about clinching back to back trainers’ premierships at home today.Hawkesbury’s leading trainer began the final meeting of the season tied with Chris Waller on 14 wins, and sealed the result when he won the opener on the seven-race program.And for good measure he added another three races later to boost his local number of winners for the 2025-26 racing year to 16.In the process the home track double lifted Brad’s overall number of winners for the season to 64, bettering last year’s 63.He won the Essential Asset &amp; Fire CG&amp;E Maiden Plate (1100m) with the promising Hong Kong-owned Viva Macaco ($3), and Richmond Club Class 1/Maiden Plate (2000m) with Longinus ($13).Chad Schofield rode Viva Macaco, and Andrew Adkins had the mount on Longinus.Brad (with 15 wins) won last season’s premiership by two wins, and it was the same outcome again.“It’s very satisfying for a Hawkesbury trainer to win our home track premiership against all comers two years in a row,” he said this evening.“A great result for my family, staff and owners.”Brad, however, is resigned to losing Viva Macaco, who was a $375,000 purchase by George Moore Bloodstock at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter yearling sale, overseas.“I have qualified him to go to Hong Kong, and expect he will go there now,” he said.“Viva Macaco is a nice young horse with a bright future.“I also qualified Levelling Up for Hong Kong by winning with the three-year-old son of Maurice at Newcastle’s Beaumont track last December.”Brad had an interesting tale to tell about five-year-old Longinus, who came to him in 2024 from a leading Sydney stable after four trials but without racing.“I won a 1400m Maiden at Canberra with him at his third start for me, but found I couldn’t train him properly last preparation,” he said.“He just wasn’t right, and the owners were good enough to get a scintigraphy done, and it showed a hot spot in Longinus’ neck.“Obviously it had been troubling him for some time, and the problem was treated with cortisone and it has done the trick.“It was bizarre, but he is going well now and this was his first try at 2000m, so it augurs well for his future middle-distance racing.”Whilst Brad was understandably pleased with his wins, he was disappointed not going home with a treble, rating runner-up Seven Days ($3.50 favorite) as very unlucky in the St Johns Park Bowling Club Benchmark 64 Handicap (1100m).The RacingNSW stewards’ report told the story.“Approaching the 300m Seven Days was disappointed for a run to the inside of Light Infantry, which shifted in,” the report read.“Approaching the 250m, when being shifted to the outside of Silk Lace to obtain clear running, became awkwardly placed on that runner’s heels.”Along with Brad’s premiership clinching double, Hawkesbury’s Family Funday at the end of the winter school holidays proved a bonanza for provincial trainers, who all but scooped the program, winning six of the seven races.

WEDNESDAY: July 15, 2026: BRAD Widdup won’t rush into deciding whether to attempt to stretch Satono Jasmine’s winning streak to four at Royal Randwick on Saturday week.The rapidly improving three-year-old filly extended her “picket fence” to three with an impressive city debut at Warwick Farm today.A dashing Chad Schofield ride paved the way for Satono Jasmine ($6) to follow up recent provincial victories at Gosford and Hawkesbury to beat her own sex in the Benchmark 72 Handicap (1600m).Schofield made his move well before the home turn – and it proved a winning one.He skirted the field on Satono Jasmine, who sustained a long and determined run to defeat Deep Pleasure ($4.40) and Sister Daee ($11) to boost her record to three wins from only seven starts.Widdup Racing races the Satono Aladdin filly in partnership with her breeder John Clancy.“If someone had said that Satono Jasmine would win three in a row this early in her career, I would have said no,” the leading Hawkesbury trainer said this evening.“But nonetheless I have always liked her.“She is a very well bred filly, being out of a High Chaparral mare (High Spin).“We won two races with her older half-sister Pro Velocity (by Proisir), but this filly is definitely better.“Satono Jasmine ran second last at the Beaumont track at her first start last December as a $31 outsider, and hasn’t looked back during her second preparation, improving with each run.“Normally I wouldn’t have brought her to town so quickly, but it’s the right time of the year to do it and she was against her own sex.“There’s another race against fillies and mares (a Benchmark 78 Handicap over 1800m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday week.“But she is nearing the end of her campaign, and I will have to be convinced that she has continued to do well before committing her to it.“If not she will go for a break, and hopefully will come back even better next time and get over a middle distance.”Satono Jasmine was Brad’s 62nd winner of the season, and he expects to have a few runners at his home track’s final meeting on Sunday, striving to retain the Hawkesbury trainers’ premiership he won for the first time last year.Brad and Chris Waller are currently tied on 14 wins apiece.

Brad Widdup Racing May 24 2026SO CLOSE TO A TWO-STATE TREBLESUNDAY: May 24, 2026: OH what might have been?Brad Widdup left Doomben racecourse yesterday shaking his head in disbelief!Hawkesbury’s leading trainer had won a race at Royal Randwick earlier in the day – his 53rd this season - but an ounce of luck could have seen him land a treble across two States.A pair of all-conquering Sydney trainer Chris Waller’s runners robbed him of a great day.After a resurgent Bella Khadijah ($11) had stormed home from well back in the Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap (1400m), Brad was narrowly beaten with both Ruby Flyer ($14) at Randwick, and Hyperbolic ($21) at Doomben.He almost pulled off a great training performance with accomplished wet tracker Ruby Flyer (Zac Lloyd), who was tackling 1600m in the Benchmark 94 Handicap at his first start since November.He had run third in the same race 12 months earlier.Ruby Flyer had to race wide throughout, and was pipped at the post by God’s Window ($5.50), who saved valuable ground near the inside and was the third leg of a maiden Sydney treble for apprentice Siena Grima.Ruby Flyer, last year’s Goulburn Cup winner on heavy ground, had good support from lengthier double figure odds as continuing rain forced a downgrade in yesterday’s track to a ‘Heavy 9’.Hyperbolic ran a mighty race when narrowly beaten by last year’s Group 1 Queensland Oaks runner-up Pinito ($4.20) in the Group 3 Magic Millions Fillies and Mares Mile at Doomben.“She deserved to win,” Brad said today.“That’s two seconds in a row now, so surely another win is just around the corner.“All going well, she will hopefully achieve that at Eagle Farm on Saturday week.”That will also be against her own sex in the $500,000 Magic Millions National Classic (1600m).Brad is adamant a return to blinkers has been instrumental in Bella Khadijah’s return to winning form.“Putting blinkers back on her has surely helped, and she has also had good set-ups in winning her last two starts,” he said.Leading apprentice Braith Nock has partnered the mare in both wins.Bella Khadijah, a four-year-old daughter of Pierata, stormed down the extreme outside to take a similar grade race (but over 1500m) at Hawkesbury’s Saturday stand-alone meeting on May 2.Again she came from well back yesterday, surging late to edge out Newcastle trainer Jason Deamer’s Phyxius ($6.50), who looked certain to win when he hit the front in the straight.The $4.20 favorite Flying Embers was a game third under her 60kg topweight.

SO CLOSE TO A TWO-STATE TREBLE

THURSDAY: May 7, 2026: BRAD Widdup had never met Ralph Tierney until he bought a yearling the South Coast builder had bred.
That was at the 2021 Inglis HTBA sale when he secured Tintookie for $30,000, and Tierney stayed in the syndicate which raced her.
The Winning Rupert mare went on to win five races (three of them at Royal Randwick), and earned nearly $500,000 prizemoney.
Sadly she broke down in the Birthday Card Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on Golden Slipper day two years ago, and was euthanased.
The leading Hawkesbury trainer&rsquo;s purchase of Tintookie earned him two more horses from Tierney, both half-sisters from the Canny Lad mare Nunya Bizz (who died last August) &ndash; and at least one of them might be a cut above the ordinary.
The unusually named Like A Surgeon remarkably didn&rsquo;t begin racing until this season as a five-year-old, and is now unbeaten from two starts.
Like A Surgeon came from well back to score at good odds over 900m at Newcastle last November, and followed up by scoring in the Midway Benchmark 64 Handicap (1000m) at Wyong today.
A well supported $3.10 favorite and with Rachel King aboard, Like A Surgeon edged out fellow Hawkesbury trainer Fabio Martino&rsquo;s Spartus ($9).
&ldquo;Like A Surgeon (also by Winning Rupert) and three-year-old filly Mind Ya Bizz (by Heroic Valour and placed twice from four starts to date) are closely related to Tintookie,&rdquo; Brad said this evening.
&ldquo;I trialled Like A Surgeon twice at Warwick Farm in 2023, but she went shin sore and she went back to Ralph.
&ldquo;For a while there I didn&rsquo;t think she was coming back until he eventually returned her to me last year.
&ldquo;She is a real trier, and that was a good effort to win today.
&ldquo;We&rsquo;ll look for another suitable race in the coming weeks to see if we can get a hat-trick with her.&rdquo;
Like A Surgeon was Brad&rsquo;s 49th winner this season &ndash; and his sixth from his last 13 starters.
Like A Surgeon is her late dam&rsquo;s first foal, and Nunya Bizz missed twice to Winning Rupert and Charge Forward before foaling Mind Ya Bizz.
Whilst Brad obviously was pleased to get another win with the late starter, he pondered what might have been at Wyong.
Stablemate Satono Jasmine ($15 after much bigger odds were bet) was an unlucky third in the Maiden Handicap (1350m) at only her second start and first since December.
The RacingNSW stewards&rsquo; report told the story, detailing how her rider Chad Schofield became very unbalanced when the filly shifted out at the start and bumped heavily with another runner.
She then became badly held up for clear room after passing the 200m and, as a result, went to the finish without being tested.

BRAD’S LATE STARTER GETS THE JOB DONE AGAIN

TUESDAY: May 5, 2026: BRAD Widdup didn&rsquo;t hesitate to support the opening of Australia&rsquo;s newest racetrack today &ndash; and was rewarded with a double.
Hawkesbury&rsquo;s leading trainer boosted his season&rsquo;s tally to 48 when favorites Whoa Nellie and Tequisoda scored in consecutive races.
Tyler Schiller partnered Whoa Nellie ($1.55) in the Provincial Maiden Handicap (1300m), and Christian Reith replaced Tommy Berry (who stayed in Central Queensland to win the postponed $1m The Archer at Rockhampton on Yellow Brick), on Tequisoda ($3.70) in the Midway Benchmark 64 Handicap (1400m).
Brad had also posted a double at Wyong last Thursday, and also won with Bella Khadijah at his home track&rsquo;s stand-alone meeting last Saturday.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s great to get a double any time, but especially for Mike Gregg&rsquo;s Mulberry Racing,&rdquo; he said this evening.
&ldquo;I had trailed horses at the new track, and my only concern was that it might suit front runners.
&ldquo;But it played really well.&rdquo;
Deep Field filly Whoa Nellie was one of four horses Brad purchased as yearlings on behalf of Mulberry at the 2024 Magic Millions sale in Perth &ndash; and all have won.
&ldquo;Seven Days, Bondi Blossom and Azure Angel had all won before, and Whoa Nellie is the last of them to win,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;That was only her third start, and she is still raw.
&ldquo;I feel she is 12 months away from being fully matured.&rdquo;
Pierro three-year-old Tequisoda has now won twice, and was beginning a new campaign, not having raced since December.
Whoa Nellie fetched $180,000 in Perth, and Tequisoda cost $160,000 as a 2024 Inglis Premier yearling in Melbourne.
Meanwhile, Brad is hoping to carry his current winning form into Gosford&rsquo;s stand-alone fixture on Saturday.
He will run Sunset Park in the $300,000 Listed Gosford Gold Cup (2100m).
Brad has booked Rachel King for the mare, who won the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) at Flemington last spring on wet ground.
